Former Philadelphia Eagles running back Boston Scott announces NFL retirement

Boston Scott, a running back who played six NFL seasons primarily with the Philadelphia Eagles, announced his retirement on October 23, 2024, via social media.[1][2]

The 30-year-old Scott played college football at Louisiana Tech University, where he appeared in 49 games from 2014 to 2017, before the Eagles selected him in the sixth round, 215th overall, of the 2018 NFL Draft.[3][4]

In 75 games, including 12 starts, mostly with Philadelphia from 2018 to 2023, Scott rushed 341 times for 1,281 yards and five touchdowns. He added 51 receptions for 370 yards and one touchdown.[3]

Scott earned the nickname "Giants Killer" for strong performances against divisional rival New York, including 92 rushing yards and two touchdowns in Philadelphia's 31-15 wild-card playoff win on January 16, 2021.[1][2]

His final regular-season game came on January 7, 2024, at MetLife Stadium against the Giants. Scott also had three carries in Super Bowl LVII on February 12, 2023, when the Eagles lost 38-35 to the Kansas City Chiefs.[3]

In his statement, Scott reflected on mixed emotions: "There is so much I’m proud of ... I don’t feel sorry for myself in the slightest. There is anger, bitterness, but also joy, and happiness." He credited coaches, teammates and his journey from a college walk-on.[1]

Scott expressed gratitude: "I'm thankful for everything the game has given me and my family ... Looking back at my career I'm just in awe of what God was able to accomplish."[1]

Outside football, Scott joined esports organization Dignitas as a content creator in November 2022.[5]
