Grizzlies' Clarke arrested on trafficking, speeding charges

Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke was arrested Wednesday in Arkansas and booked into Cross County Jail on charges including possession of a controlled substance, trafficking a controlled substance, improper passing, fleeing and exceeding the speed limit. The seventh-year NBA player faces the charges amid a limited season in which he has appeared in just two games. Grizzlies head coach Tuomas Iisalo acknowledged the report before the team's game against the New York Knicks that night but offered no further comment.

Clarke, a Gonzaga product drafted 21st overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2019 and traded to Memphis on draft night, has served primarily as a bench contributor. He earned All-Rookie honors in 2019-20 after averaging 12.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. Injuries have sidelined him this 2025-26 season, initially from right knee surgery and later a right calf strain.

Over seven NBA seasons and 309 games with the Grizzlies, Clarke has averaged 10.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists, with 50 starts. The team announced last month that recent tests extended his recovery timeline, ruling him out for the rest of the season.

Clarke is expected to return for the 2026-27 campaign.
